RI picks up Publication of the Year at sustainability awards

Title also wins Best News Story and Best Editorial ESG Campaign

RI has been awarded Publication of the Year, Best Editorial ESG Campaign and Best News Story at the inaugural Aviva Investors Sustainability Media Awards.

The awards, which claim to recognise “outstanding contribution[s] to ESG reporting in the financial services media”, were judged by Aviva Investors’ Chief Responsible Investment Officer, Steve Waygood; Rhian-Mari Thomas, Chief Executive of the UK’s Green Finance Institute; Tanya Steele, Chief Executive of WWF; Sarah Gordon, Chief Executive of the Impact Investing Institute; James Alexander, CEO of the UK Sustainable Investment Forum; and Mark Cobley, Communications Specialist at the PRI.

Responsible Investor took the title for Publication of the Year. It was also awarded Best Editorial ESG Campaign for its 2020 series celebrating the fifth anniversary of the UN Sustainable Development Goals – a project that explored the different ways in which institutional investors around the world were supporting the 17 SDGs.

Best News Story was awarded to RI Reporter Dominic Webb for the article VE backpedals over coal mix-up in Adani second-party opinion, which revealed inaccuracies in documentation provided to investors to help them assess a sustainability-linked bond.

RI Reporter Gina Gambetta was “highly commended” in the Best Newcomer category at the awards. Former Senior Reporter Vibeka Mair was also commended for articles she wrote on climate change during her time at RI.

“We are really proud of the journalists and the wider team at Responsible Investor for continuing to produce market-leading content, and we thank the judges and Aviva for recognising those efforts,” said RI’s Editor, Sophie Robinson-Tillett. “There is a clear and growing need for knowledgable, challenging and helpful reporting on sustainable finance if we are to meet the lofty goals we hear about so often – so congratulations to all the winners and nominees of these awards.”
