Hiromichi Mizuno, the Executive Managing Director and Chief Investment Officer of the world’s biggest pension fund, Japan’s US$1.3 trillion Government Pension Investment Fund (GPIF), will participate in a keynote interview to open the RI Europe conference on June 6-7 in London, the 10-year anniversary of the flagship sustainable finance conference.
Mizuno has served as the Executive Managing Director and Chief Investment Officer of Japan’s US$1.3trillion Government Pension Investment Fund, the largest pension fund in the world, since January 2015.
As the investment chief of the world’s biggest pension fund, Mizuno is one of the most important figures in the institutional investment field.
He is as at the helm during one of the biggest portfolio shifts and moves into long-term, responsible investment the world has ever seen by a pension fund, involving a doubling of domestic and international equities and a clear strategy of long-term sustainable assets backed by highly active corporate governance.
Mizuno is also an Executive Adviser to the Japanese Cabinet on healthcare and medical growth strategy, a Member of the Japanese Government Strategic Funds Integrated Advisory Committee, a Co-Chair of the Milken Institute’s Global Capital Markets Advisory Council, and a Member of the UN-PRI Asset Owner Advisory Committee.
He will talk to RI Managing Editor, Hugh Wheelan, about why Japan wants to make the GPIF one of the leading ESG investors in the world.

As part of RI Europe’s ten-year anniversary, the conference is focusing on speakers with direct insight into where sustainability in investment could be heading in the future based on macro economic trends such as economic and political stability, social inequality, climate change regulation and related government initiatives.
Our second lead keynote, John Rogers, is the former CEO and president of CFA Institute and has over 30 years of c-suite experience in the financial sector, including working as the chief investment officer for companies on three separate continents. Rogers has deep experience working in asset management for some of the world’s most sophisticated institutional investors
He has been a leader in promoting sustainability and investing and will talk about his work on fiduciary capitalism.
The two lead keynotes join a stellar speaker faculty from across Europe’s investors and beyond, speaking on a broad range of pressing investment topics within RI’s renowned high-level, topical programme.
Alongside the traditional plenary and deep-dive specialist panels, this year’s 10th anniversary also incorporates a 1-day (June 7) ‘corporate leaders stream’ in partnership with Leaders Arena, giving a unique opportunity to hear ESG business-driven presentations from three leading companies, AB InBev, BT Group and Total, with a combined market cap well in excess of €300bn. The three will conduct ESG presentations and Q&A in the morning of June 7th (open sessions), and a limited number of one-to-one meetings with investors during the afternoon (closed sessions).
The RI Europe conference 10-year anniversary takes place in a brand new venue at etc.venues County Hall, opposite the UK Houses of Parliament on June 6-7 and the current conference agenda can be seen by clicking the link
