RI People & Appointments, May 2: New chairman at Dansif

RI’s regular Monday review of people moves and appointments.

Ole Buhl, senior ESG (environmental, social and governance) advisor at Danish pension fund ATP, has become chairman of Dansif, the Danish Social Investment Forum. He takes over from Thomas H. Kjærgaard, Head of SRI and Corporate Governance at Danske Bank. Kjærgaard tweeted that he had handed the Dansif steering wheel to Buhl.

Sarah Cleveland, senior consultant with Towers Watson Investment Services has left the company. Cleveland was involved with much of Towers Watson’s RI work in the US and is currently looking at opportunities in the space.

Stephen Griggs, Executive Director of the Canadian Coalition for Good Governance (CCCG), has been named to the newly-created role of President and CEO at OPSEU Pension Trust, the C$13bn (€9.3bn) Canadian pension fund manager that is a signatory to the United Nations Principles for Responsible Investment. He is a former CEO of Legg Mason Canada. The CCCG board said it has started a search for a new Executive Director. Announcement

Sacha Sadan has been named Director of Corporate Governance at Legal & General Investment Management. He joins from Gartmore where he was Senior UK Equity Fund Manager and co-managed a range of UK equity hedge, retail and institutional funds. He will join LGIM on June 6 and report to Interim Chief Executive Kevin Gregory.

The Climate Bonds Advisory Panel has named four new members: Pedro Moura Costa, founder and executive chair at E2 environmental finance; Stuart Clenaghan of Eco System Services Ltd.; Jonathan Maxwell, founding partner of the Sustainable Development Corporation and David Wood of Harvard University’s Institute for Responsible Investment. Padraig Oliver has joined the Climate Bonds Initiative as Research Manager and Charles Fisher has joined to help launch the Climate Bonds Standards Scheme. Blog post

Timothy Corbett, chief investment officer at UN PRI signatory Connecticut Retirement Plans & Trust Funds, has resigned to join Massachusetts Mutual Life Insurance Company (MassMutual) as Executive Vice President and CIO. MassMutual announcement
Eric Pooley, the environmental author and deputy editor of Bloomberg Businessweek, has been named Senior Vice President for Strategy and Communications at the Environmental Defense Fund. The EDF is a leading US NGO with more than 700,000 members.Alan Smith, Managing Director of Citi Securities and Fund Services, is joining the board of directors of XBRL US, the non-profit consortium for XBRL (eXtensible Business Reporting Language) business reporting standards. XBRL US is currently developing an XBRL taxonomy for reporting corporate actions information as part of the “Issuer to Investor: Corporate Actions” initiative. Announcement

Equilibrium Capital Group, the US investment firm building a portfolio of asset managers in sectors impacted by resource constraints and sustainability, has hired Drummond Pike, founder of The Tides Organizations as Principal. Pike is known for his work in creating innovative ways to find and provide funds to socially and environmentally important movements.

Paula DiPerna, former president of the international division at the Chicago Climate Exchange, has been named as a Special Advisor to the Carbon Disclosure Project in North America. DiPerna’s other roles have included president of the Joyce Foundation, environmental consultant to the World Bank, the Global Environment Facility and LEAD-International.

A nomination committee has been formed to begin the process of appointing an interim standards board for the AA1000 sustainability standards. The members are Enrique Lahmann (International Union for Conservation of Nature), Christian Dreyer (JP Morgan Switzerland), Richard Boele (Banarra, Australian sustainability consultancy), Liv Watson and Kurt Ramin (AccountAbility).

Clint Vince, who heads law firm SNR Denton’s Energy, Transport and Infrastructure practice, has joined the board of the World Resources Institute, the US-based global environmental think tank. “We look forward to working with him to help shape strategies that will protect the environment and find practical solutions for business and the planet,” said WRI President Jonathan Lash.
Jonathon Porritt, one of the UK’s most prominent environmentalists, has joined low-energy lighting technology firm Ceravision as Sustainability Advisor. Porritt, former Director of Friends of the Earth and inaugural Chair of the Sustainable Development Commission, will advise the company’s board on “global and local sustainability challenges and opportunities”. ISS Governance Services is advertising a vacancy for an ESG Analyst-Senior Associate, in Makati City, Manila, the Philippines. “The senior associate will manage a team of analysts involved in sustainability research on publically traded companies,” the ad states. The vacancy closes on June 26.
