Australia has launched the first global standard for responsible investment training with the inauguration of the RI Academy on-line certification system.
The academy, which is being overseen by the Responsible Investment Association Australasia (RIAA), was launched at RIAA’s 7th International Responsible Investment Conference in Sydney on September 15.
It is backed by the United Nations Principles for Responsible Investment (UNPRI) and includes web-based courses on UNPRI compliance and the integration of ESG factors in finance decisions across pensions andinvestment organisations. The creation of the academy was kicked off in February 2009 when the Australian government gave a huge boost to the development of responsible investment in Australia’s pensions and finance industry by awarding a grant worth Aus$2.5m (€1.25m) for its creation. It is headed up by Neb Jovicic, who previously worked for Citizens Funds in the US in securities analysis and portfolio management.
