Hugh Wheelan: something to watch, think about and laugh/cry over this weekend

Interesting RI snippets to have a look at.

A good weekend for me usually includes something I want to watch, something I want think about, and something to laugh/cry over (It just so happens that this weekend all three converge as I attempt to ‘will’ Scotland to win an international rugby match; a usually futile task!).
So here goes for a short Friday blog that maps out how a decent weekend might pan out.
First up, it’s highly worth watching Chris McKnett, Head of ESG at State Street Global Advisors, deliver his excellent TED talk on ‘Taking sustainable investing to the next level: Link
It’s clear, funny and popular: almost 274,000 views and counting! We need to see more of the RI world’s excellent thinkers and speakers taking to the media (social or otherwise) to argue the case for responsible investment.Second, take a look at James Gorman, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Morgan Stanley, and his first post*1_*1_*1_*1_*1_*1_*1_*1_*1_*1_*1&trk=prof-post as a Linked-In ‘Influencer’: it’s on sustainable investing! It seeks to put Morgan Stanley at the heart of the economic debate around climate, poverty and population. Big investment bank joins RI club? My mind will be on what Gorman’s blend of long-term value and social impact for investors actually means. Positive thoughts no doubt! Lastly, it’s worth a laugh and a cry over Chevron’s terrible PR blunder following an explosion at a Chevron natural gas well in Bobtown, Pennsylvania. The explosion left one worker dead after a four-day fire. Chevron’s reponse? A free pizza and soda voucher for local residents!
Investors should have a word with that company about its safety record, environmental strategy and poor community relations skills. Oh, ‘some’ already have….
Bon weekend!
