Proxy firm ISS names Aviva’s Marshall as European research head

Asset manager’s regional head joins influential advisory firm

Proxy voting advisory firm Institutional Shareholder Services (ISS) has named Aviva Investors’ Georgina Marshall as its new head of European research.
Marshall is currently Regional Head of Corporate Governance for Aviva Investors, the UK-based fund management firm with £269bn (€313.7bn) in assets under management. She will join ISS in January 2012 and will be based in London.
Marshall will report to Head of Global Research Martha Carter, and will head up research teams based in London, Brussels and Paris. She will also have a role on ISS’s Global Policy Board and will oversee ISS’s engagement with companies.“Georgina has a proven track record of successfully leading corporate governance initiatives, in establishing best practices and in working with fund managers to integrate governance into the investment management process,” said ISS President Gary Retelny.
Marshall, who has been at Aviva for 10 years, was formerly at Swiss Re and Mercantile and General Re Insurance.
Last month ISS named Daniel Smith as its new head of Australian research.
ISS is part of index firm MSCI, which earlier this month reported that governance revenues declined by $1.5m, or 5%, to $28.8m in the third quarter.
