McKinsey & Company acquires Vivid Economics and Planetrics

Acquisition is McKinsey’s third this year

Management consulting giant McKinsey & Company has acquired sustainability consultancy Vivid Economics and its sister company Planetrics.

Vivid Economics was founded in 2006 to advise firms on sustainability topics including industrial transformation and natural resources. According to its website, it has more than 120 employees and is headed by Jason Eis, a former Regional Director for the Global Green Growth Institute. It is one of the firms driving the Principles for Responsible Investment’s work on policy scenarios, known as the Inevitable Policy Response.

Vivid spun off Planetrics in December to develop climate analysis and granular data on climate risks. Planetrics clients include Macquarie, Lloyds of London and HSBC Global Asset Management.

The terms of the deal were not disclosed, but it is the latest of several acquisitions by McKinsey in 2021, including digital product development consultancy Hypothesis and cloud consultancy Candid Partners.
