Obituary: Daan Schoemaker, Senior Analyst, Sustainalytics

Responsible Investor is saddened to report the death of Daan Schoemaker, Senior Analyst at Sustainalytics. Daan passed away unexpectedly on February 25 at the age of 39. He joined Sustainalytics in 2009 following positions at Cordaid, Amnesty International and the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Based in Amsterdam, he was responsible for Sustainalytics’ Global Compact Compliance Service and the firm’s engagement support service.
A spokeswoman for Sustainalytics said: “Daan’s passing is a great shock and we are coping with the loss together.
He had a passion for human rights and his keen intellect not only allowed him to gather a phenomenalamount of knowledge about the subject, but the ability to provide unique insights to clients and colleagues alike. During the past year, much of Daan’s work focused on the meaning of the Ruggie framework for investors worldwide.
We will always remember Daan as a deep thinker and an outstanding analyst, but mostly as a fantastic person. His motivation and passion for justice and for people were, and will always be, an inspiration to all of us. We will sorely miss his smile, sense of humour, commitment to social issues, and respect and care for others.
We wish his family and friends all the strength in the coming period to cope with this loss.”
