People & Appointments: David Lunsford quits Carbon Delta to launch new venture

The latest ESG movers and shakers

David Lunsford, the co-founder of Carbon Delta, has left the company two years after it was acquired by MSCI to establish a new venture. Lunsford set up climate data house Carbon Delta in 2016 and became Head of Climate Strategy and Policy for MSCI ESG Research as part of the 2019 acquisition. He will now take the helm at a new company called Nature Returns, which is still under development.

Victoria Land has joined Santander as Head of Sustainable Capital Markets. Land is the former Head of Sustainable Bonds for the EMEA region at HSBC and, most recently, Head of Sustainable Banking for APAC at Credit Agricole. 

The European Banking Authority is hiring a Head of Unit for ESG Risks. The newly-created role will sit within the EU supervisor’s Economic and Risk Analysis Department, and will be based out of Paris. The successful candidate will help develop and analyse sustainability-related data and metrics, lead the EBA’s work on ESG mandates and “building an EBA centre of excellence and information hub with relevant ESG data and analysis as a public good for all relevant stakeholders”. 

The Eiris Foundation has appointed four new trustees to its board: Aaron Hay, Director of Engagement & Investment Strategy in Sustainable Fixed Income at Federated Hermes; Richard Howitt, former Member of European Parliament and CEO of the International Integrated Reporting Council, now a Senior Associate at Frank Bold; Nina Roth, a Director in BMO Global Asset Management’s responsible investment team; and Maryann Selfe, Head of Product Strategy & Sales Steering, Digital Banking at Credit Suisse Switzerland.

Aviva’s Managing Director for Workplace Savings, Emma Douglas, has been appointed to chair the UK’s Pension and Lifetime Savings Association (PLSA). Douglas was Head of Defined Contribution at Legal & General Investment Management from 2014 to 2021 and has held roles at BlackRock, Threadneedle and Mercer. She will serve as Chair for three years, replacing Richard Butcher, Managing Director of professional trustee firm PTL. The PLSA will open applications for Douglas’s replacement as Chair of PLSA’s Policy Board in due course.

Jupiter has made another new appointment, adding to a recent flurry of additions and promotions at the London-based ESG asset manager. Noelle Guo has moved from Pictet Asset Management to become an Equity Analyst for Jupiter Green Investment Trust and three of the firm’s green investment funds. Last month, Anisha Arora and James Kearns joined the company’s governance and sustainability team from Allianz Global Investors and BNP Paribas, respectively. Maiken Anderberg was appointed as an Equity Analyst in April, after two short-term stints at Jupiter in recent years. Laura Conigliaro and Jenna Zeglemen have both been promoted to Analyst for Environmental Solutions and Investment Director, respectively.  

Steve Waygood, Aviva Investors’ Chief Responsible Investment Officer, has joined the Board of Trustees at WWF, along with Kirsty Brimelow, Head of the International Human Rights Team at Doughty Street Chambers and Dorcas Gwata, co-chair of Better Health, a network of African diaspora health professionals in the UK. 

Marie Navarre has been promoted to Head of Sustainable Research at Allianz GI. Navarre joined Allianz in 2019 as a Senior ESG/SRI Analyst from Amundi, where she spent 10 years as an SRI Analyst.

Nastassja Cernko, Sustainability Manager at the Austrian Kontrollbank, has joined the board of the Global Compact Network Austria.

Praveen Tekchandani has been promoted to Partner at EY Climate Change and Sustainability Services. Tekchandani, who is an Expert Board Member at Singapore’s Ministry of Sustainability and the Environment, joined EY in 2017 from TÜV SÜD.

The UNEP Finance Initiative is hiring a Communications Consultant for the Net-Zero Banking Alliance.

Ella Harvey has joined Chronos Sustainability as Manager for Policy Research. Harvey joins Chronos from the Grantham Research Institute, where she helped develop the scoring methodology for the Climate Action 100+ Net Zero Company Benchmark.

Nicholas Hurd has become a non-executive Director at Impax Environmental Markets. Hurd has previously served as the UK’s Minister of State for Climate Change and Industry, sits on the advisory board of the UK Green Finance Institute and is Chair of Access at the Foundation for Social Investment.

John Graham, President and CEO of Canadian pension fund CPP Investments, has joined FCLTGlobal’s Board of Directors. Founded in 2013, the Boston-based non-profit is dedicated to ‘focusing capital on the long term’. 

Lars Dijkstra has been appointed Chief Sustainability Officer at Dutch wealth manager Van Lanschot Kempen. Dijkstra has been Chief Investment Officer at the firm since 2005, and serves as the Treasurer of Eumedion as well as being a member of investment professional group The 300 Club.

Jonathan Lin has joined Hong Kong-based asset manager CLSA as an ESG Strategist, leaving his role as Associate at global nonprofit Business for Social Responsibility. Lin has previously held roles at the Climate Bonds Initiative and Hong Kong-based think tank Civic Exchange.

Luke Sussams has joined US investment bank Jefferies as Vice President for ESG and Sustainable Finance Research. Sussams was most recently a Sustainability Research Analyst at Kepler Cheuvreux, prior to which he spent five years as a Senior Researcher at Carbon Tracker.
