People & Appointments: Cbus names Monnier as head of stewardship

The latest ESG movers and shakers: Singhal leaves Lazard AM amid sustainability business overhaul; NZAOA announces 2024 working track leads.

Stephen Monnier has joined Australian super fund Cbus as head of stewardship. He leaves BlackRock after 12 years, having worked as investment stewardship director and more recently as head of sustainable and transition solutions Australasia. Monnier has also held roles at BNY Mellon, Newton Investment Management and Macquarie Bank.

Sustainable investment and ESG co-head Nikita Singhal has left Lazard Asset Management after more than five years, amid an overhaul of its sustainability business. Jennifer Anderson is now sole head of sustainable investing and ESG at the US manager.

The UN Environment Programme Finance Initiative has announced the Net-Zero Asset Owner Alliance working track leads for 2024. The appointments include: Jake Barnett, managing director of sustainable investment strategies at Wespath; Danielle Brassel, director of responsible investment at Zurich Insurance Group; Jean-François Coppenolle, director of responsible investment at Abeille Assurances; Anne de Clermont, head of responsible investment at AXA Group; Olga Hancock, head of responsible investment at Church Commissioners for England; Patrick Peura, ESG engagement manager at Allianz; and Udo Riese, global head of sustainable investing at Allianz Investment Management.

The Forum Nachhaltige Geldanlagen, Germany’s SIF, has replaced its CEO. Sascha Görlitz, who took up the role in 2022, is set to be replaced by Verena Menne, who had previously worked on regulation and policy at the association. In a statement, the FNG said that Görlitz had left to “pursue new professional challenges”. Menne has previously worked for several pensions industry associations.

Angus Brown has joined Apollo Global Management as a counsel in its sustainability team. He was previously a financial services supervising associate at Simmons & Simmons, where he spent more than seven years.

Cecile Biccari has joined the Ethos Foundation as senior manager for investor education. She leaves Oyat Advisors, a family office, after more than eight years as a senior impact adviser. Bicarri formerly spent seven years at Robeco, and was also a senior consultant at sustainable investing boutique consultancy, Contrast Capital. She will continue as a member of the reporting and assessment advisory committee at the Principles for Responsible Investment (PRI).

The PRI is seeking a climate specialist to support its work on climate issues. The successful candidate will provide technical expertise and project management capabilities, and engage with the PRI’s signatory base and wider financial system participants. Applications close on 18 February.

Philipp Wendenburg has joined Allianz as sustainability data and architecture lead. He leaves SAP Fioneer after more than one year as global head of ESG solutions. Wendenburg formerly spent 14 years at PwC, where he was sustainable finance director.

JPMorgan Chase is recruiting an ESG policy and regulation associate. The successful candidate will support external advocacy and engagement efforts across strategy, policy development, data gathering and management reporting, as well as monitor sustainability-related regulatory policy developments.

Olaf Brugman has been promoted to a manager in external stakeholder engagement in sustainability at Rabobank. He was previously head of sustainability expertise, and has held several sustainability-related positions across his more than two-decade tenure at the bank. He was also superintendent of sustainability at Sicredi bank in Brazil for two years.

The Glasgow Financial Alliance for Net Zero (GFANZ) is hiring a Hong Kong chapter office lead. The successful candidate will represent GFANZ as local secretariat, and build and maintain relations with key industry stakeholders.

Alessandra Lehmen has been appointed as head of the ESG committee at 30% Club Brazil. She is head of environmental, climate and regulatory law at Juchem Advocacia. She is also president of the environmental law commission at the Brazilian Bar Association.

The Institut de la Finance Durable, the French financial centre’s sustainable finance initiative, is hiring a sustainable finance project manager for regulation. The successful candidate will be in charge of leading the CO2 accounting project, which aims to standardise measuring Scope 3 emissions, and co-ordinating the initiative’s responses to consultations on regulatory texts.
