People & Appointments: ICG poaches Barclays’ global ESG head

The latest ESG movers and shakers: Candriam makes senior ESG hire to oversee US expansion, new director of Americas at the PRI

Alternatives investor ICG has poached Elsa Palanza, currently global head of sustainability and ESG at Barclays, to become its new ESG head. Palanza, who spent four years at Barclays, had previously worked for six years for the Clinton Global initiative and as a strategic adviser to clients including the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.

Eimear Palmer has left her role as head of responsible investment at ICG to join $85 billion private markets manager Pantheon as partner and global head of ESG. She is among the founders of the UK network of private manager climate initiative Initiative Climat International.

Candriam has appointed Alexandra Russo as head of ESG client portfolio management for the US and UK. Russo, who leaves Allianz Global Investors to take up the new position, will be based in New York and tasked with spearheading Candriam’s ESG expansion in the US.

The firm has also hired Marouane Bouchriha from Edmon de Rothschild Asset Management to co-manage its climate action strategy. David Czupryna has moved from head of ESG development to lead manager on Candriam’s circular economy strategy and Marie Niemczyk has moved from head of insurance relations to head of ESG client portfolio management based in Paris.

Lindsey Walton has been promoted from head of Canada to director of Americas at the PRI, replacing Chris Fowle, who left in April to join Guardian Life. Walton, who joined the PRI in 2020 from WCM, has previously held roles at CIBC Capital Markets and Quorom Funding Corporation. The PRI is recruiting for her replacement as head of Canada.

Dan Saccardi, programme director for the company network at Ceres, has been appointed chair of the civil society advisory body at the Principles for Responsible Banking.

Ellie Tang has joined Fidelity International as director, sustainable investing. She leaves her role as head of sustainability at property firm New World Development.

Yasmine Djeddai, head of sustainable finance APAC at Société Générale, and Stella Saris Chow, head of sustainable finance, international corporate finance at ANZ, have become co-chairs of the Asia Pacific Loan Market Association’s green and sustainable loan committee. They replace Jonathan Drew, managing director ESG solutions, global banking at HSBC, who steps down from the role after five years in post.

Souleymane Ba has joined Generation Investment Management’s climate investment business Just Climate as a partner. Ba, who leaves his role at Africa-focused investor Helios Investment Partners after a decade, has also held roles at Carlyle and Morgan Stanley. He will also join its executive and investment committees.

Simon Bond, manager of Columbia Threadneedle’s UK social bond fund, is set to retire from his role. Bond, who has spent the past 19 years working at Threadneedle and managed the fund since its launch in 2013, will move to a part-time role supporting the firm’s other social bond funds before retiring next year. He will be replaced as manager by Tammie Tang.

Olivia Albrecht has left her role as global head of ESG at California-based manager TCW Group to become chief sustainability officer at green fintech Aspiration. Albrecht, who sits on the board of advisers at Persefoni, spent 10 years at PIMCO before joining TCW, most recently as head of ESG business strategy.

Nathalie Wallace, global head of sustainable investing at Natixis Asset Managers, has been appointed to the firm’s management committee.
