People & Appointments: New Head of Sustainable Investing Research at JP Morgan AM

The latest ESG movers and shakers: CalPERS, Chronos Sustainability, Old Mutual

Roland Rott has joined JP Morgan Asset Management as Head of Sustainable Investing Research. Rott left his role as Head of ESG and Sustainable Investment Research at La Française – where he had been since 2016 – in January. He sat on UNEP FI’s Investment Committee for five years, and has previously held roles at GO Investment Partners and DWS.

The Head of Green Finance at the UK’s Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy has been appointed Chief Investment Officer at Climate Solutions. While at the Department, Howard Davies worked on the inaugural green gilt, UK Infrastructure Bank and the UK’s net zero strategy. 

Georgia Stewart, CEO of ESG-voting fintech Tumelo, has been appointed to Aviva’s independent governance committee. Stewart replaces Robert Talbut, former Chief Investment Officer at Royal London Asset Management, who stepped down at the end of 2021. 

Christoph Scaife has become Head of Sustainability at alternatives investor Atrato. Scaife joins the firm from Ninety One where he spent six years as ESG Specialist, working on DFI-funded alternatives investments in the EMEA region. Before joining Ninety One, he held roles at Phatisa and Databank Fund Managers.  

John Graves has been appointed Chief Investment Officer of the Low Carbon Renewables Fund, and has been nominated as Chairman pending regulatory approval. Prior to joining the fund, Graves was a Senior Investment Officer at the Washington State Investment Board, and has previously held roles at JP Morgan Asset Management and the Rockefeller Family Office. 

CalPERS has appointed Nicole Musicco as its new Chief Investment Officer. Musicco, who leaves her role as Partner at RedBird Capital Partners, spent 16 years working at the Ontario Teachers’ Pension Plan, in a number of roles including Head of APAC and Head of Public Equities. 

Sagarika Chatterjee has become co-Lead for Finance on the COP26 High-Level Champions Team. Chatterjee, who has been Director of Climate Change at the PRI since 2013, will also join the GFANZ secretariat leadership team in May. 

Gemma James has joined Chronos Sustainability as Senior Manager, Biodiversity and Nature. James left her role as Senior Lead, Environmental Issues at the PRI, where she spent close to seven years, earlier this month. She has previously worked at the International Council on Mining and Metals. 

Finland’s OP Asset Management has made three new appointments to its ESG team, bringing its total size to seven. Kristiina Ruuska joins the firm as ESG Specialist focusing on active ownership from MSCI ESG Research, while Minna Kononen leaves her role at the World Bank to become ESG Specialist for alternatives, and Wenjia Yu joins at ESG Data Analyst. 

Daniel Gribbin has joined ESG-tech provider Emex as Vice President of Sustainability and ESG. Gribbin spent eight years working in various sustainability roles for KPMG, before joining Canadian consultancy WSP in 2019 as Corporate Sustainability Leader and later ESG Advisory lead. 

Jon Duncan has announced he is to leave his role as Head of Responsible Investment at Old Mutual to become Chief Impact Officer at an unnamed Swiss private bank. Duncan spent 11 years in the role at Old Mutual, joining from Environmental Resources Management, where he was a Partner.
