People & Appointments: Pope appoints ethical investment committee

The latest ESG movers and shakers: Amundi nabs Lyxor head of RI, Martina Macpherson joins SIX.

The Pope has appointed a five-member ethical investment committee to oversee the Holy See’s equity investments. Cardinal Kevin Joseph Farrell, a Vatican prefect, will preside over the committee, which also includes Jean Pierre Casey, CEO of RegHedge; Giovanni Gay, managing director of Union Investment Privatfonds; David Harris, a portfolio manager at Storebrand subsidiary Skagen Fonds; and John J Zona, CIO at Boston College. The committee, which has been appointed for a five-year term, “is called upon to ensure the ethical nature of the Holy See’s equity investments, in accordance with the Church’s social doctrine and according to the criteria of profitability, suitability and moderate risk”.

Florent Deixonne has left his role as global head of sustainable and responsible investments at Lyxor Asset Management to become head of ESG regulatory strategy at Amundi. Deixonne, who has previously held roles at AXA IM and Societe Generale, joined Lyxor in 2012 and became head of its sustainable investment wing in 2014.

Catherine Howarth, CEO of ShareAction, and Stephanie Pfeifer, CEO of the Institutional Investors Group on Climate Change, have been made Officers of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) in recognition of their services to sustainability and sustainable finance, respectively.

Martina Macpherson has joined SIX as head of ESG product management. Macpherson, who leaves her role as head of ESG strategy at financial services group ODDO, has previously held senior ESG roles at Moody’s and S&P Dow Jones, and founded her own sustainable consulting business in 2014, which she managed for close to five years.

Johan Jarnmo has joined the Anthropocene Fixed Income Institute as a quant associate, portfolio analytics. He joins after four years at Deloitte, most recently as a senior consultant working on financial risk.

Tamara Larsen has joined Mercer as its US ESG investments practice leader. Larsen, who leaves her role as managing director at Agility, has also held roles at Russell Investment Group and as a portfolio manager for an impact mandate.

AP7 is hiring a portfolio manager for its fixed income wing with a focus on green bonds.

Nigel Topping, the UN high level climate action champion for COP26 and former executive director and chief innovation officer at CDP, has been appointed to the board of the UK’s infrastructure bank.

Jerome Mayhew, MP for Broadland, has been elected chair of the UK’s All Party Parliamentary Group on sustainable finance. He replaces Ed Davey, MP for Kingston and Surbiton and leader of the Liberal Democrats.

Switzerland’s Financial Market Supervisory Authority is recruiting a senior policy specialist to work on developing the regulator’s oversight of climate risk and other sustainability themes.
