RI’s regular round-up of people moves in the responsible investment field.

Erik Mather. Responsible-investor.com wishes to add its respect to a tribute by the Responsible Investment Association for Australasia (RIAA) and by other RI professionals on the passing of Erik Mather on 26 September 2011. Erik started the BT Governance Advisory Service in 2002, which then became Regnan. His efforts were a major driver for the growth of RI in Australia. John Ruggie, the former Special Representative of the UN Secretary‐General for Business and Human Rights, is to chair the board of a new non‐profit business and human rights practice called Shift. The New York-based project will formally launch this autumn, according to a news release. Link

Ita McMahon has joined the Co-operative Asset Management as a Responsible Investment Analyst. Prior to joining TCAM, she spent five years as a
corporate responsibility consultant at the CSR agency, Corporate Citizenship. She has also worked as climate change policy adviser with the UK government.

Business for Social Responsibility (BSR) has expanded its human rights practice with the addition of a new advisor, Christine Bader, non-resident Senior Fellow at Duke University’s Kenan Institute for Ethics and a former advisor to the UN’s John Ruggie. BSR said Bader would advise clients such as Disney, Microsoft, and Rio Tinto on human rights strategies and systems. Bader has also worked in the non-profit and public sectors, including as a special assistant to the New York City mayor’s chief of staff and deputy mayor.

Andrew Watterson is to join US sustainability and corporate responsibility consulting firm BrownFlynn as a senior consultant. He was most recently the first Chief of Sustainability for the City of Cleveland. Announcement

Jitzes Noorman has joined F&C Investments fiduciary management team in Amsterdam, according to reports. He joins from Mn Services.

Impax Asset Management, the specialist environmental investment manager, has appointed Ominder Dhillon as Head of Distribution. Ominder joins from Fidelity International where he was Head of UK Institutional Distribution since 2009. Prior to this role Ominder spent nine years as Director of Institutional Sales at Scottish Widows Investment Partnership, and nine years at John Morrell & Associates and Johnson Fry plc.The 2011 Moskowitz Prize for Socially Responsible Investing has been awarded to four academics for their study on the cost of equity capital financing of firms with strong corporate responsibility. The award, made by The Center for Responsible Business at University of California Berkeley’s Haas School of Business, was presented at the annual SRI in the Rockies Conference to Sadok El Ghoul, Omrane Guedhami, Chuck C.Y. Kwok and Dev Mishra, for their study: “Does Corporate Social Responsibility Affect the Cost of Capital.” The paper argues that low CSR firms suffer from higher cost of equity than high CSR firms because of a smaller investor base and higher perceived risks. El Ghoul is an associate professor at the University of Alberta, Guedhami is a Moore Research Fellow and associate professor at the Moore School of Business at the University of South Carolina, Kwok is a Senior Distinguished Moore Fellow and professor of international business at the Moore School of Business, and Mishra is an Associate Professor and Centre for Strategic Financial Management Scholar at the University of Saskatchewan.

The Canadian Investor Relations Institute (CIRI) has appointed Brian Ector to the CIRI National Board of Directors. Ector is the Vice President, Investor Relations for Baytex Energy Corp. CIRI is a professional, not-for-profit association of executives responsible for communication between public corporations, investors and the financial community.

RepRisk. Charlotte Mansson, former Head of Sales and Marketing at RepRisk, in Switzerland has left the company. Mansson’s departure was understood to be for family reasons.

Funds@Work. Maik Rodewald, former Continental European Head of FT Asset Management, has joined German research and consultancy outfit Funds@Work and will work on developing its new Intelligence Unit which will soon go live, called Insights@Work.
Gregory Johnson has been elected to a one-year term as chairman of the Investment Company Institute, the US mutual fund trade body. Johnson, the president and CEO of Franklin Resources, takes over from T. Rowe Price Vice Chairman Edward Bernard. Announcement
