RI People & Appointments, February 7: SocGen names Head of Sustainable Development

RI’s regular Monday review of people moves and appointments.

French banking giant Societe Generale has named Jean-Michel Mépuis as Group Head of Sustainable Development. He was previously head of strategy and development at the bank’s custody and trustee services arm, Societe Generale Securities Services. The appointment is effective from March 1. Announcement

Michael Passoff, the former Senior Program Director at the As You Sow Foundation, has launched a proxy service for foundations and socially responsible investors. It’s called Proxy Impact; its advisory board comprises Arabella Philanthropic Investment Advisors’ Eric Kessler, Social Investment Forum board member Leslie Lowe and UC Hastings College of the Law’s CFO David Seward. Responsible Research, the Singapore-based ESG research house, has hired Benjamin McCarron as Head of Research. McCarron was formerly a Responsible Investment Analyst at The Co-operative Asset Management.
Andy Szyman, Head of Sustainability at F&C REIT Asset Management, has been appointed co-chair of the United Nations Environment Programme Finance Initiative’s Property Working Group. He takes over from Paul McNamara, head of research at Prupim.
Trond Grande has been named deputy chief executive officer at Norges Bank Investment Management, the arm of the central bank which manages Norway’s Global Pension Fund. Grande, NBIM’s Chief Risk Officer, takes over from Stephen Hirsch who stepped down in October last year.
Mike Musuraca, a former board member of the UNPRI who was previously member of the investment and proxy committees of the New York City Employees’ Retirement System (NYCERS), is to leave Blue Wolf Capital, the New York-based private equity house, which he joined in March 2009 as managing director.
Sally Bott is standing down as a director at Swiss bank UBS at its AGM in April. Bott, human resources director at BP, chairs UBS’s human resources and compensation committee and is also a member of its corporate responsibility and governance committees. TIAACREF, the $453bn US finance giant, is advertising a vacancy for a Managing Director — Agriculture & Natural Resources Economist. The role is “responsible for natural resources investment, geographic natural resources markets”. Corporate Citizenship, the responsibility and sustainability agency with clients such as HSBC and GE, is seeking a Managing Director. The firm – part of the Chime/Bell Pottinger group – has offices in London and New York and “plans for further growth in the USA, Europe the Middle East and beyond”. Link

UBS is recruiting an analyst for its SRI and Sustainability Team. The position is based in New York with UBS looking to strengthen its US client profile and research content outside of its broader base in Europe. The job, which will be at Director level, is an indicator of confidence returning to recruitment in brokerage ESG research. Email
