RI People & Appointments, April 4: HESTA searching for Fuller replacement

RI’s regular Monday review of people moves and appointments.

Australia’s A$16bn (€11.4bn) HESTA Super Fund has confirmed it is seeking a replacement for Richard Fuller, the respected ESG Analyst who last month joined investment consultant Mercer. Robert Fowler HESTA’s Executive Manager-Investments & Governance told RI: “We are seeking someone who will further develop HESTA’s ESG initiatives, to maintain our ESG leadership in the Australian investments industry.”

Petter Johnsen has been named chief investment officer for equities at Norges Bank Investment Management, the manager of the NOK3trn (€385bn) Government Pension Fund amid a series of senior appointments. Karsten Kallevig becomes CIO for real estate wile CEO Yngve Slyngstad adds the role of CIO, allocation. equity CEO Trond Grande becomes chief of staff and Jan Thomsen becomes chief risk officer. The moves follow the departure of former CIO Bengt Enge last month. Link

Tim Turnbull, chief investment officer of Hermes Real Estate, has resigned, according to a report in Property Week. Turnbull had been with Hermes, the asset manager owned by the BT Pension Fund, for nearly six years.

Rickard Backlund, the former chief executive of Aberdeen Property Investors, has been named to chair the new €500m real estate company being formed by Swedish buffer pension funds AP1 and AP2. “The work of appointing the other members of the board and the recruitment of a CEO has already started,” the funds said.Russell Fong has been named Acting Chief Financial Officer of the $230bn (€162bn) California Public Employees’ Retirement System. In the newly established position Fong will be responsible for managing the financial processes for CalPERS, including budgeting, accounting, cash management, and financial planning and analysis. He is currently the Interim Assistant Executive Officer of the CalPERS Administrative Services Branch. Announcement
Bill Hughes, Managing Director of Legal & General Property, has been named chairman of the Green Property Alliance, an umbrella organisation for green real estate. He takes over from Martin Moore of PRUPIM.

Mike Post has resigned as a trustee of British Airways’ £6.4bn (€7.3bn) Airways Pension Scheme. The Daily Telegraph reported he quit after trustees voted to calculate pension payments in line with the consumer prices index instead of the retail prices index.

Susan Kudzman, the former Chief Risk Officer at UN PRI signatory the Caisse de dépôt et placement du Québec, has joined Mercer Canada as Financial Strategy Group leader. She left the C$131.6bn (€96bn) Caisse in May 2010. Announcement

Elliot Frankal, the former Head of Communications for the UN Principles for Responsible Investment, has started his own environmental, social and governance communications firm ESG Communications. Adam Ognall, former Deputy Chief Executive of UKSIF, is an associate advisor. Link
