RI People & Appointments, January 24: New chairman at €1trn Eumedion

RI’s regular Monday review of people moves and appointments.

Peter Borgdorff, chairman of the giant PFZW Dutch health care fund, has been appointed chairman of Eumedion, the Dutch corporate governance forum that represents 67 Dutch and foreign institutional investors with more than €1trn in combined assets. He takes over from Johan van der Ende, who left his role as CIO at PGGM Investments in October. The Eumedion board now comprises Borgdorff, Ronald Florisson (Robeco), Wouter Pelser (Mn Services), Frederik van Beuningen (Teslin Capital Management), Ben Kramer (F&C), Colin Melvin (Hermes Equity Ownership Services), Marjolein Sol (Syntrus Achmea) and Bart van der Steenstraten (Shell Pension Fund). Simon Cartwright, Global Head of Consultant Relations at AXA Investment Managers, has been named Director, UK Institutional and Global Consultants at Hermes Fund Managers. Jill Renwick, the former director of the Europe, Middle East and Africa Institutional Group at Fidelity International, becomes Hermes’ Director of UK Business Development.

Globalance Bank, the new private bank set up by SAM founder Reto Ringger has named its board of directors. They are: Felix Ehrat, chairman of law firm Bär & Karrer (chairman); Thomas Kubr, CEO of Capital Dynamics; Joachim Schoss, director of Goldbach Group and Neue Zürcher Zeitung; Diana Strebel, entrepreneur and director of Ricola; Louis Graf von Zech, director of BHFBANK.

Rufus Warner, chairman of the investment committee at Stanley Fink’s Earth Capital Partners, has joined Investment Solutions, the multi-management firm owned by Alexander Forbes, as CEO. Link

John Drexhage, director of the Climate Change and Energy Programme at Canada’s International Institute for Sustainable Development, has been appointed climate change director at the International Council on Mining and Metals. “The appointment for this newly created post marks a serious commitment by ICMM to engage in the global fight against climate change,” the ICMM said.

Brad Robinson is to join new US proxy services firm Eagle Rock Proxy Advisors, taking responsibility for its governance advisory service, according to Corporate Secretary magazine. He joins from Proxy Governance, where he was a member of the research team and worked extensively with leading industry. New Jersey-based Eagle Rock formed last year. Mark Florman, the former senior executive at private equity firm Doughty Hanson and ex-chairman of wind turbine component supplier LM Glasfiber, has been appointed as the new CEO of the British Private Equity and Venture Capital Association (BVCA). He takes over from Simon Walker in mid-March. Announcement

Martin Berg is leaving Bank of America Merrill Lynch’s carbon-trading team to join the European Investment Bank in Luxembourg, according to Bloomberg News.

William Claxton-Smith, the former head of corporate governance at Insight Investment, has joined the UK’s Remuneration Consultants Group as an independent non-executive director. The group is developing a voluntary code for executive remuneration consultants. Philippa Hird, non-executive director of HM Revenue and Customs, also becomes a non-exec.

Heather Munroe-Blum, Principal and Vice-Chancellor of McGill University, has been appointed to the board of directors of the C$138.6bn (€102.5bn) Canada Pension Plan Investment Board (CPPIB). She takes over the position left vacant following the death Germaine Gibara.

The UN Global Compact is seeking a Programme Manager for its new Global Compact LEAD, its new platform for corporate sustainability leadership. This major new project will work under the supervision of UN Global Compact Deputy Director Gavin Power and Senior Advisor Ole Lund Hansen. Link
SAM Group, the sustainable asset manager that’s part of Robeco, is seeking a Senior Agriculture Analyst. The Zurich-based role will look at sustainability and financial analysis for listed companies agriculture companies and contributed to the development of the sustainable agribusiness investment strategy. The European Financial Reporting Advisory Group (EFRAG) is currently recruiting technical staff to help it with its 2011 work programme. “You can become a project manager, either as a permanent employee of EFRAG, or via a secondment agreement with your company,” EFRAG says.
