RI People & Appointments, January 30: New chairman at Finnish pension giant

RI’s regular round-up of responsible people moves

Jussi Pesonen has been nominated as chairman of the board of Finland’s UN Principles for Responsible Investment signatory Ilmarinen Mutual Pension Insurance Company. Pesonen is chief executive at forestry products firm UPM Kymmene. Link

Ronald Pressman has been named chief operating officer at US retirement investments giant TIAACREF, a new role. He joins from General Electric, where he was president and chief executive of GE Capital Real Estate. Pressman, a former CEO of GE Asset Management, will report to TIAACREF CEO Roger Ferguson. PIRC, the London-based shareholder voting advisory company, has appointed David Dando, to run its custom services team. Most recently, Dando was an Associate Director at HBQ Partners and previous roles include Director of International Development at IRRC, and Director of ISS Europe.

Bridges Ventures, the London-based social venture capital firm, has promoted Simon Ringer, Head of Property Funds, to its Board and boosted three employees in its funds business to Partner level: Anne-Marie Harris, Alistair Tillen and Garret Turley. All three work within Bridges’ Sustainable Growth Funds. Bridges Ventures has raised six funds to date totalling almost £260m.

Clara Barby has been appointed Head of Impact at Bridges Ventures, a new role. She joins from business school INSEAD, where she was President of INDEVOR, its Business in Society initiative.

Anthony Eames has been named Senior Vice President at Calvert Investments, where he will head up third-party distribution. Eames, who joined the socially responsible investments firm in 1995, takes over from Craig Cloyed, who has retired. Announcement

The Calvert Foundation, the not-for profit impact investor, has named David Kyle and Kathy Rock as Chief Operating Officer and Chief Financial Officer respectively. Kyle was formerly founder and CEO for the Indian School Finance Co., an educational finance provider in Hyderabad, while Rock joins from mortgage institution Freddie Mac. CFO Chip Hollands has left.
Separately the foundation has several current job vacancies. These include: Senior Investment Officer, International Investments; Investment Officer, International Investments; US Investment Officer; and Investor Relations Associate.David Murphy has been named as chief executive of the Northern Ireland Local Government Superannuation Committee, the UN PRI signatory which runs the £3.5bn Local Government Pension Scheme in Northern Ireland, according to reports. Murphy replaces Deane Morrice, who is retiring after 29 years with the body, reported Professional Pensions.

The Co-operative Asset Management has made some portfolio manager changes. Andrew Moffat takes over the UK Growth Trust from Joe Walters while Neil Foundly takes Moffat’s role at the UK Income with Growth Trust. Walters will move to the institutional side of the business, the firm said.

Stephen Fraidin, of law firm Kirkland & Ellis, has joined the Advisory Board of the Harvard Law School Program on Corporate Governance.

Charlotte Steel has just joined the Network for Sustainable Financial Markets, the non-partisan network of finance sector professionals, academics and others, as its first Coordinator. She is a former analyst at Impax Asset Management.

Steve Melligan, currently Head of Planning and Development at the Church Commissioners, has been appointed Strategic Land Manager at the Crown Estate, the £7bn property portfolio owned by the UK monarch.

Hans Jörn Rieks has been named as head of Vestas Offshore, part of Danish wind turbine maker Vestas. He was formerly president of Vestas Central Europe. Link

Social Finance, the UK social investment group, is seeking an International Social Impact Bonds Director. “The Director will build on the existing political momentum created by the launch of the Peterborough Social Impact Bond in the US, Canada, Australia, Ireland, Scotland and Israel,” the ad states. The application deadline is January 31. Link

Richard Davies Investor Relations, the investor relations firm, has a vacancy for a UK Shareholder Analyst – London. The role reports to the firm’s Joint Heads of Analytics.

The Brussels-based European Private Equity and Venture Capital Association (EVCA) has hired Emma Thorpe as Head of Communications. Thorpe will be based in Brussels and London. She joins from The Carlyle Group, the private equity company, where she was Director of European Communications responsible for European government affairs and public relations.
