RI People & Appointments, July 2: Global Impact Investing Network names European liaisons

The Global Impact Investing Network (GIIN) has engaged Harry Hummels and Susannah Nicklin as its first European Liaisons. Their goal will be to encourage collaboration between the European impact investor community and the GIIN and cultivate strategic relationships with European networks and organizations. Hummels is a Managing Director at SNS Impact Investing, the development investment arm of Dutch bank-insurer SNS REAAL. Nicklin, is a former Goldman Sachs banker and co-founder of Lotus & Co., a provider of outsourced client engagement services for financial and professional services firms, and a Director at Pantheon International Participations, a UK private equity fund of funds.

Tidjane Thiam, Group Chief Executive of Prudential plc, will take over as the new chairman of the Association of British Insurers (ABI). He takes over from Tim Breedon of Legal & General who will be stepping down having completed his two-year term of office.

Colleen Fletcher, Director, Membership and Stakeholder Relations at CSR Europe in Brussels has left after four years in the post.

Nominations have closed for elections at the UNPRI to the PRI Advisory Council. There are four asset owner posts up for re-election this year and the full candidates and start of the election process by PRI signatories will be announced on July 23.

Caroline Fiennes, former Executive Director of Global Cool, the sustainable foundation, has joined the Market Committee at UKSIF, the UK’s sustainable investment and finance association. The committee oversees UKSIF’s Market programme, including the strategic direction of National Ethical Investment Week.Barclays Chairman Marcus Agius has resigned over the Libor interest-rate price fixing scandal that has engulfed the UK banking giant. “I am truly sorry that our customers, clients, employees and shareholders have been let down,” he said. Jean-Marc Lechêne has been named as the new Chief Operating Officer at Vestas Wind Systems, the Danish wind turbine maker. He is a former senior executive at tyre giant Michelin and cement producer Lafarge. Announcement

Simon Roberts, chief executive of the Centre for Sustainable Energy (CSE), has been appointed as non-executive chair at Triodos Renewables Plc, the renewable energy investment company. Roberts, managing director of the company between 1999-2002, takes over from Charles Secrett.

Carl Sandlin, the former Global Drilling Safety, Health, Environment, and Security Manager at ExxonMobil, has been appointed as an independent expert by BP to ensure the company is implementing the recommendations of the Bly Report into the Gulf of Mexico oil spill in 2010.

Georges Antoun has been named as Chief Operating Officer at First Solar, the Nasdaq-listed solar technology company. He was most recently a venture partner at Technology Crossover Ventures, the private equity and venture firm.
