RI People & Appointments, March 14: Female directors proposed at Deutsche, Munich Re

RI’s regular Monday review of people moves and appointments.

Two major German financial institutions have put forward senior female executives for their supervisory boards. Munich Re has proposed electing SEB Chief Executive Annika Falkengren at its AGM on April 20. Meanwhile, Deutsche Bank has nominated Katherine Garrett-Cox, CEO of Alliance Trust, for its May 26 meeting.

Sasja Beslik, head of responsible investments and governance at Nordea, has been named as a Young Global Leader 2011 by the World Economic Forum. Nordea is the Stockholm-based bank with €191bn in assets under management. Also nominated was Diana Tsui, Director of Corporate Social Responsibility and Chief Executive Officer of KPMG Foundation in Hong Kong.

Natixis, the French bank, has hired Cécile Lamotte to join its SRI sell-side research team. Lamotte joins from CA Cheuvreux, where she was an SRI analyst. She started her career at Innovest Research Advisors.

Toronto-based proxy firm Phoenix Advisory Partners has hired five senior staff from rivals Kingsdale Shareholder Services and Georgeson Shareholder Communications. They are Dexter John, Grace Salonga and Marcus Campbell from Kingsdale and Michael McLeod and Susy Monteiro from Georgeson. Announcement

Otto Thoresen has been appointed as Director General of the Association of British Insurers. He is currently Chief Executive of AEGON UK and will take over from acting director general Maggie Craig on April 4. Announcement

Jacqueline (Jackie) Wong has been appointed CEO of Temasek Trust, the philanthropic arm of the Singapore state investor. She was formerly a senior partner with executive search firm Egon Zehnder International. Web site

Rudolf Mees, one of the founders of sustainable bank Triodos, died on September 29 2010 aged 79. He was one of four people who set up Triodos foundation in the 1970s and was instrumental in setting up Triodos as a full licensed bank in 1980. “Sustainable banking was Rudolf’s driving principle,” Triodos said in its client newsletter The Colour of Money.
Christine Neumann has been appointed as European Union and Membership Services Coordinator at CSR Europe, the European corporate social responsibility network. She previously worked at the Permanent Representation to the EU of both Austria and Germany. Link
Godefroy Beauvallet has been named to head the AXA Research Fund, AXA’s €100m “scientific philanthropy initiative” which supports research into the environment and society. Beauvallet, who was previously CFO at the Institut Telecom, replaces Anne-Juliette Hermant, who becomes Global Head of Learning and Development. Release*Helena Viñes Fiestas*, Policy Adviser to the Private Sector Team at Oxfam is leaving to join BNP Paribas Asset Management in Paris as co-head of SRI Research and head of Sustainability Thematic Research. She starts in April.

Nina Jackson has been named Director of Sustainability & Environment at PRUPIM, the £16bn (€18.5bn) real estate fund management arm of M&G. Jackson, formerly an Associate Director at Jones Lang LaSalle, takes over from Joel Quintal who has relocated to Australia.

Charles Holliday is to take over as Chairman of the Corporate and Social Responsibility Committee at Royal Dutch Shell from Wim Kok at the Annual General Meeting on May 17. Kok, the former Dutch Prime Minister, is to retire from the board. Shell has also nominated Linda Stuntz, former Deputy Secretary of the US Department of Energy, as a non-executive director with effect from June 1.

Emma Haight has been appointed as vice president in Dutch merchant bank NIBC’s infrastructure and renewables team in London. The appointment follows the departure of associate director Denis van Alphen to PGGM as senior investment manager of infrastructure, according to a report on Inspiratia.

Mark Zinkula has been named as the new chief executive of Legal & General Investment Management, the largest owner of UK equities. LGIM, which has £342bn in assets under management, signed up to the United Nations Principles for Responsible Investment in September 2010.

Climate Change Capital Ltd., the low carbon fund manager and advisor, is seeking a Project Manager, Carbon Finance. “We are looking for a Project Manager (Vice President grade) to join the team and take responsibility for the management of a group of projects based in companies in Uzbekistan and Georgia,” it says. It also seeks an Associate for its CCC Private Equity Fund. Link

Mn Services, the Dutch fiduciary manager and pension administrator with some €61bn in assets under management, has named Peter Kok, Kees Korevaar, Ella Vogelaar and Cees van Woudenberg to its Supervisory Board. They join Kees Linse, who was appointed Chairman in October 2010.

International development finance institution Oikocredit is seeking a National Director of Oikocredit USA. The first interviews are planned for March 23/25.
