RI People & Appointments, March 21: SIF’s DeSimone joins Sustainable Investments Institute

RI’s regular Monday review of people moves and appointments.

Peter DeSimone is leaving his position as director of programs at the Social Investment Forum to join the Washington-based Sustainable Investments Institute (Si2) as Deputy Director, the organisation he co-founded in 2009 with Executive Director Heidi Welsh. He will help build Si2’s membership and original research, drawing on 16 years’ experience in proxy analysis, sustainability research and corporate engagement.

Axel Schwarzer has been named as the new Head of the Asset Management business unit at United Nations Principles for Responsible Investment Vontobel Group. He was formerly Vice Chairman of Deutsche Asset Management and Global Head of Relationship Management at DWS Investments. Announcement

Elizabeth Corley, chief executive of Allianz Global Investors Europe, has been appointed a non-executive director of the Financial Reporting Council, the UK watchdog which oversees the Stewardship Code. “Elizabeth’s European experience will be particularly important as we negotiate with Brussels on corporate governance issues in the coming year,” the FRC said. The EDHEC-Risk Institute has appointed AP2’s Tomas Franzén and PGGM’s Jaap van Dam to its International Advisory Board. Franzén is Chief Investment Strategist at Swedish buffer fund AP2 (Andra AP-fonden) while van Dam is Managing Director Investment Strategy at Dutch healthcare fund PGGM.

Soumendra Nath Lahiri has been named as head of equities at Canara Robeco Asset Management, Robeco’s Indian joint venture. He was previously Senior Vice President and Co-Head, Equities with DSP BlackRock Asset Management. Link

Ty Lee has joined WHEB Asset Management to provide cover for fund manager Nicola Donnelly’s maternity leave at the IM WHEB Sustainability Fund. He formerly worked for UOB Asia, Accenture and Morgan Stanley in Hong Kong.

State Street Global Advisors, the asset manager with $2trn in assets under management, has advertised a vacancy for a Senior ESG/Governance Analyst. The Boston-based role will “develop enhanced research and risk valuation methodologies of environmental, social, and governance based issues”. State Street careers site

News and data giant Bloomberg is seeking an Equity Research Analyst – Environmental, Social and Governance. The Princeton-based role will “capture new data sets and utilize Bloomberg’s proprietary data sets and technologies to develop new analytical functionality”. Link

Oxford Brookes University Business School is seeking a PhD student to investigate the Stewardship Code. The proposed areas of research include how institutional investors adopt the code; whether the Code leads to increased shareholder engagement and better governance; whether and how shareholders make use of the information supplied by institutional investors.
