RI People & Appointments, May 16: KLD founder Kinder wins Bavaria award

RI’s regular Monday review of people moves and appointments.

Peter Kinder, the co-founder of environmental, social and governance (ESG) research firm KLD Research & Analytics, has been awarded the Bavaria Impact Award by Ceres and Trillium Asset Management. William Foote, founder and CEO of Root Capital, won the Bavaria Innovation Award. The awards are named after sustainable investment pioneer Joan Bavaria. Link

Stephan Olajide-Huesler, Senior Investment Director, Responsible Equity Strategies at PGGM, the Dutch pension fund manager, has left the company. Olajide-Huesler continues to work as Founder and President of Responsible Investment Capital, an advisor to institutional investors on the implementation and management of responsible and sustainable strategies.

Today (May 16) is the deadline to send in nominations for the Canadian SRI Lifetime Achievement Award. The award – won last year by Sustainalytics’ Michael Jantzi – will be presented at the Canadian Responsible Investment Conference in Victoria, British Columbia C on June 22. Link

Nominations are now open for four asset owners and four investment manager/service providers to join the new PRI Advisory Council, the successor body to the UN PRI’s Board. The group oversees the PRI Initiative overall, and appoints the legal directors of the PRI Association. “If you have a strong interest in taking a leadership role within the PRI Initiative, we encourage you to nominate,” the United Nations Principles for Responsible Investment says.

Peter Dunscombe, head of pension investments at the BBC and a leading light in responsible investment, is to retire after 11 years in the role. He will be succeeded by Russell Investments’’ James Duberly. Dunscombe is a former chairman of the Institutional Investors Group on Climate Change.
Link*Johnny Åkerholm is to retire* from his post as President and Chief Executive of the Nordic Investment Bank in spring 2012. The NIB’s board of directors has started a process to recruit his replacement. The deadline for applications is June 4.

Kayla Gillan, the former general counsel at CalPERS and chief administrative officer at RiskMetrics, has joined accounting firm PwC as a Principal in its regulatory relations group. Gillan was most recently a senior aide to Securities and Exchange Commission Chairman Mary Schapiro.

Gerard Noonan, chairman of Australia’s A$3bn (€2.2bn) industry superannuation fund Media Super, has been appointed as the new President the Australian Council of Superannuation Investors (ACSI). He takes over from Michael O’Sullivan. Trish Donohue, Executive Manager of Investments for Cbus Superannuation Fund becomes Deputy President.

Oekom Research, the Munich-based sustainability ratings house has had a reshuffle. Rolf Häßler, previously Director Product & Market Development, has taken over as Head of Corporate Communications. Silke Ladewig has moved to Business Development & Client Relations, dealing with client acquisition and account management. Till Jung, previously Director International Relations, is confirmed as Head of Business Development & Client Relations.

Lindy Sherwood has been appointed managing director and president of Kaspick & Co., the TIAACREF subsidiary that specialises in planned gift assets and mid-size endowments. She replaces Michael Kahn, who has been appointed managing director, corporate strategy and development at TIAACREF, a new role. Link

Lou Thompson, former President/CEO of the National Investor Relations Institute (NIRI) has become a fellow at the Governance & Accountability Institute.
