RI People & Appointments, May 30: Swedish AP funds, Mercer, CalPERS, Blackrock

RI’s regular Monday review of people moves.

The Swedish government has appointed 16 new members of the AP funds’ boards of directors. Former Secretary of State Urban Karlström becomes chairman of Första AP-fonden (AP1) while former finance minister Pär Nuder takes over as chairman of Tredje AP-fonden (AP3). Ebba Lindsö, the former chief executive of the Confederation of Swedish Enterprise (Svenskt Näringsliv), will chair Sjätte AP-fonden (AP6).

Danyelle Guyatt, Global Head of Research for Responsible Investment at Mercer, the investment consultant, in London, is leaving the firm to return to her native Australia to work for a superannuation fund in Melbourne. Details of the new position will be confirmed shortly, but Guyatt is to set up the fund’s sustainable investment program and integrate it across their assets.

Michelle Edkins has resigned as a director of Governance for Owners Group LLP, according to a company filing. The move follows her appointment as head of global corporate governance at BlackRock in March. She had joined the GO board last year. Earlier this year, GO named Yoichiro Iwama, Chairman of the Japan Securities Investment Advisers Association, to its board. Iwama is a former President and CEO of Tokio Marine Asset Management, GO’s partner in Japan. Ian Smith, the former CEO at Reed Elsevier, Taylor Woodrow and Exel Europe, also joined as a partner.CalPERS board member Henry Jones has been declared the unofficial winner of the CalPERS board seat representing retirees. He will serve another four-year term on the fund’s Board of Administration, beginning January 15, 2012. Ned Hall, president of AES North America and AES Wind Generation, has taken over as chairman of the American Wind Energy Association. Tom Carnahan, founder and chairman of NTR’s wind business Wind Capital Group, was named chairman-elect of the trade body. Release

Sir Adrian Montague, the non-executive chairman of UK private equity firm 3i, has been appointed as chair of the Green Investment Bank (GIB) advisory group. Montague is also non-executive chairman of recruitment firm Michael Page International and the Anglian Water Group. He’s also a non-executive director at construction firm Skanksa.

Jin Liqun, Chairman of the Board of Supervisors of the China Investment Corporation, has been named as the new Chair of the International Forum of Sovereign Wealth Funds for a two-year term. He takes over from David Murray, Chairman of Australia’s Future Fund, who will continue as honorary chair of the IFSWF in a consultative role.
