RI People & Appointments, Nov. 4: Australia’s Local Government Super gets ESG expertise on board

Joanna Davison has joined the board of Local Government Super, the Australian superannuation fund. LGS said she brings to the role extensive experience “with a focus on the management of environmental, social and governance (ESG) risks”. Davison, currently Acting Chief Executive of the Fund Executives Association, replaces Ian Robertson who has resigned after 16 years as a director. She was previously Regional Managing Director for Australia and New Zealand at CFS Global Asset Management, where she was “integral” to its leading position as an ESG manager, LGS added. Sydney-based LGS has assets of A$7bn (€4.9bn), of which around A$4bn are invested in responsible investment strategies.

Jane Ambachtsheer, Partner and Global Head of Responsible Investment at consulting firm Mercer, has joined the Ontario Securities Commission’s Investor Advisory Panel for a two-year term. Other new members include Harold Geller, Leader in Financial Loss Recovery Group of McBride Bond Christian, Alison Knight, formerly with the Consumers Council of Canada and Ursula Menke, Retired Commissioner, Financial Consumer Agency of Canada. Paul Bates is stepping down as the panel’s chair, to be succeeded by Connie Craddock, the former Vice-President of Public Affairs at the Investment Industry Regulatory Organization of Canada (IIROC).

Environmental data firm Trucost has appointed two new senior analysts. Claire Curtin joins from EIRIS where she was a client relationship manager. Prior to that she had 10 years of experience in the asset management and hedge fund industry as a Product Specialist at Pioneer Alternative Investments, BlackRock and JPMorgan Asset Management. Nick Burniston joins from Aviva, where he was the acting Head of Corporate Responsibility and Engagement. He has more than eight years of experience in the sustainable finance sector including SRI analyst roles at Morley and GAM.Ben Levenstein, former Head of UK Equities at Universities Superannuation Scheme Investment Management, has moved to a newly created role of Senior Investment Manager Strategic Investments. It’s part of a reorganisation which has seen the formation of a new Private Markets Group at USS bringing together existing expertise in property, infrastructure, private equity and private debt with a mandate to work beyond “standard silos”.

Jesse Collins, executive vice president and chief operating officer, is leaving Broadwind Energy, the Nasdaq-listed wind energy technology firm. Mark Skeen, currently vice president of its Abilene tower operations, is promoted to the new role of vice president and general manager of its industrial weldments business.

Anthony Appleton has been appointed as Director of Accounting and Reporting at the Financial Reporting Council, the UK watchdog. He joins from BDO LLP where he is a Director in its Financial Reporting Advisory team and will work with the FRC’s Executive Director, Codes and Standards, Melanie McLaren. Announcement

Anne Simpson, Senior Portfolio Manager and Director of Global Governance at the $275bn California Public Employees’ Retirement System (CalPERS), has been recognized by the US Green Building Council’s Northern California Chapter (USGBCNCC) in the ‘Green Groundbreaker’ category for her leadership with the fund’s sustainability efforts. She was presented with the award at the USGBCNCC’s annual Green Building Super Heroes Awards Gala in San Francisco. “With her passion and leadership, CalPERS will continue its groundbreaking sustainability work,” said CalPERS’ CEO Anne Stausboll.

Guy Davies has been named as head of charities and philanthropy at Heartwood Investment Management, the UK-based private wealth group that is now part of
Handelsbanken. He has held similar roles at Barclays Wealth and Evercore Pan-Asset.
