
Phil Kirshman, Chief Investment Officer, Cornerstone Capital Investment Management and Jamie Yordan, former Vice-Chairman of Citigroup were appointed to the board of impact investor Calvert Foundation last month. Earlier this year, the board also appointed Decker Rolph, an early-stage business and finance executive and investor, and Aron Betru, Managing Director of the Center for Financial Markets at the Milken Institute. This brings the board to a total of 10 members.
Howard Bamsey, the former Director-General of the Global Green Growth Institute, has been appointed Executive Director of the Green Climate Fund’s Secretariat. Bamsey, an Australian national, co-chaired the United Nations ‘Dialogue on Long-term Cooperative Action on Climate Change’ from 2006 to 2007 and served as Australia’s Special Envoy on Climate Change and Deputy Secretary at the Department of Climate Change and Energy Efficiency from 2008 to 2010. He has also served in a variety of senior government and executive positions. He will be based in the Republic of Korea in his new role with the Green Climate Fund.
Dr Steve Wharton, Senior Lecturer in French and Communication at the University of Bath, has been appointed to the trustee board of the Universities Superannuation Scheme (USS), the UK’s fund for academics. Wharton is an appointee of the University and College Union and replaces Dr Angela Roger.
Sunil Krishnan, Head of Global Asset Allocation at Hermes Investment Management, has left the fund management firm according to Financial News. Krishnan, who had responsibility for building and managing global investment portfolios for institutions, was formerly Head of Market Strategy at British Telecom Pension Scheme Management.
Consulting firm Aon Hewitt has named two new partners to focus on foundation and endowment clients. Heather Myers, most recently a managing director at Russell Investments, joins the firm as a partner and Delegated Solutions leader for Endowments & Foundations. Sheila Noonan is a partner and head of Endowments & Foundations Investment Program Management for Aon Hewitt’s Delegated Solutions business. Grant Boyken, California’s Deputy State Treasurer, has been named as Public Affairs Executive Officer at the California State Teachers’ Retirement System (CalSTRS). He will head up External Affairs, Communications, and Governmental Relations divisions, reporting to CalSTRS’ Chief Operating Officer, Cassandra Lichnock.
Choon Wah Wong has been named CEO of Standard Life Investments (Singapore), where he will head up a new team in the city state. He joins from Partners Group where he was Senior Vice President, Singapore.London-based investment manager Ecofin has hired portfolio manager Michel Sznajer to work on a number of products including their ESG compliant hedge fund. He was previously a portfolio manager at hedge fund Silvaris Capital Management, before which he spent twelve years with Wellington Management. He will work mainly on the Ecofin Vista Long/Short Fund and the Ecofin Global Renewable Infrastructure Fund.
Jeremy Corbyn, leader of the UK opposition Labour party has reportedly appointed Dr Alan Whitehead as shadow energy and climate change minister. He is returning to the role just months after resigning in protest at Corbyn’s leadership. Whitehead has served on the Energy and Climate Change and Environmental Audit Committees.
Feroz Rizvi has been named CEO of the Pakistan Institute of Corporate Governance (PICG), a not-for-profit body that promotes good corporate governance practices in the country, according to reports. Rivzi is a Chartered Accountant who was formerly Finance Director at ICI Pakistan; he takes over from Fuad Hashimi who has retired after nine years in post.
Professors Joyeeta Gupta and Paul Ekins, have been nominated to lead the production of the sixth edition of the ‘Global Environment Outlook’ (GEO-6), the most comprehensive assessment of the state of the world’s environment. The assessment, produced by UN Environment provides policy makers with trends and projections for air, climate, water, land and biodiversity and an outlook for the future. Gupta, of the University of Amsterdam, will lead the research in the areas of environmental sustainability and governance. Ekins, of University College London, will oversee the areas of sustainable resource use, energy and environmental policy.
Shona Sklaroff has been appointed Head of Business Management and Strategy at Standard Life Wealth, the UK-based fund manager. She was formerly with Bank of Scotland where she was Senior Area Manager of mid-market corporate business and will report to CEO Richard Charnock.
A Head of Secretariat for the Clean Energy Ministerial (CEM) is being sought by the OECD. The CEM was created in 2010 as a voluntary and collaborative high-level forum which combines the leadership of energy ministers and engagement from the private sector and other international partners. In June 2016, a decision was taken to establish a multilateral CEM Secretariat at the International Energy Agency.
