TIAACREF, the $469bn US institutional investor, is seeking a Managing Director, Global Social & Community Investing. The role will “lead cross-functional/inter-departmental teams for monitoring and communicating emerging environmental, social and governance issues as they relate to investment policy”. AccountAbility, the sustainability think tank, has named a new advisory council. Hans Decker, former President and CEO of Siemens Corp. (USA), will be Chairman. The board will include: entrepreneur Carol Atwood; John Fraser, Chairman and CEO of UBS Global Asset Management; Robert Herz, former Chairman of the US Financial Accounting Standards Board; Abdallah S. Jum’ah, former President and CEO of the Saudi Arabian Oil Co. and board member of Halliburton Company; Sir Mark Moody-Stuart, Chairman of Hermes Equity Ownership Services and former chair at Anglo-American and Royal Dutch/Shell; Subramaniam Ramadorai, Chairman of Tata Technologies; and South African entrepreneur Mthunzi Mdwaba. Governance for Owners, the investment manager specialising in shareholder engagement, has named Mark O’Connor as Partner. He was formerly in a business development role at Hermes, GO said. The company also recently appointed Dimitri Sheriff as Marketing Executive.
Nick Brown, the former Director of Research at Innovest Strategic Value Advisors, has formed his own company. Just Screening specialises in ensuring investor compliance with any type of ethical or responsible investment mandate. It has partnerships with RepRisk, Responsible Research and CRD Analytics. The Carbon Markets & Investors Association, the trade body, has elected five members to its board. Newly elected were Jonathan Shopley of the Carbon Neutral company and Anna Lehman of Climate Focus. Alexander Sarac of DLA Piper, Gareth Phillips of Sindicatum and Yvo De Boer of KPMG were re-elected.
The US SIF: The Forum for Sustainable and Responsible Investment (formerly the Social Investment Forum) is hosting a ‘get to know the candidates’ teleconference for members for its board membership election on October 18.Jillian Broadbent has been named by the Australian government to chair the advisory group looking at the design of the planned A$10bn (€7.5bn) Clean Energy Finance Corporation (CEFC). Broadbent is a board member of the Reserve Bank and sits on the boards of Woolworths Limited and ASX Ltd. The expert review panel will report to the Government by mid March 2012; the CEFC is expected to launch in 2013-14. Announcement
Sylvia Mathews Burwell has been named president of the Walmart Foundation, the philanthropic arm of the giant US-based retailer. She joins from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and will replace Margaret McKenna, who is retiring.
Tony Juniper, the former executive director of campaign group Friends of the Earth, has been appointed Chairman of Action for Renewables (A4R). A4R is alliance of non-governmental organisations, trade unions, activists and industry bodies to campaign for the expansion of renewable energy. Link
Christine Bader, senior fellow at Duke University’s Kenan Institute for Ethics and former advisor to John Ruggie, the UN Secretary-General’s Special Representative for business and human rights, has joined corporate responsibility consulting firm BSR.

Guillaume Prache, Managing Director of the Federation of European Investors (EuroInvestors), has been named chair of the European Securities and Markets Authority’s new Securities and Markets Stakeholder Group. Peter de Proft, Director General of the European Fund and Asset Management Association (EFAMA), becomes a vice-chair.

Corporate responsibility consultant BSR has advertised for a Director, Global Partnership Development. The role is located in New York and will be responsible for designing projects that address critical social and environmental sustainability topics; securing donor support to fund these programs; and overseeing a global team in North America, Europe, and Asia.

Corporate responsibility and sustainability consultancy Corporate Citizenship is seeking a CR Consultant. The application deadline for the London-based role is November 9.
