RI People & Appointments, Sept. 26: Former Shell chief to chair Carbon Trust

Former Shell UK Chairman James Smith has been appointed as Chairman of the Carbon Trust, the UK’s not-for-profit company which supports the low carbon economy. Smith, who joined the trust’s board in 20910, takes over from Sir Ian McAllister. Announcement

Eija Hietavuo, the former Head of ESG/CSR related Business at Thomson Reuters, has joined a new unit at UNICEF focusing on Corporate Social Responsibility in context of children’s rights and business. “Later this year we are looking to launch a programme to support the introduction/implementation of the Principles of Children’s Rights and Business,” she said.

The National Association of Corporate Directors, the US business group, will honour a host of well-known corporate governance figures at its Awards Gala on November 8. Among the various personalities named are Nell Minow, Lucian Bebchuk, Kenneth Bertsch, Anne Sheehan, Anne Simpson, Anne Stausboll, Mindy Lubber, Jack Ehnes, Christianna Wood, Mike Wallace. Link

Robert Wescott, the former chief economist for the President’s Council of Economic Advisers under Bill Clinton, has been named as the chairman of Hermes BPK Partners, the hedge fund arm owned by the BT Pension Scheme. Wescott, the founder of economic analysis firm Keybridge Research, takes over from Glyn Jones who left in July.
Mn Services, the Netherlands-based fiduciary manager, has expanded its UK team with three new appointments. They are Jeff Neaten, Marcelo Dellavedova and Chun-Kong. They join from P-Solve Asset Solutions, Northern Trust and Mn Services’ head office respectively. Jack Fuller, the recently retired chairman of Hitachi Nuclear Energy, is to join the board of Ontario-based clean energy firm OZZ Clean Energy. The firm also named Boris Baril as Chief Financial Officer; he joins from Algonquin Power & Utilities Corp. where he was Director of Finance. Link
James O’Connor has been named to the board of NASDAQ-listed natural gas fuel firm Clean Energy Fuels Corp. O’Connor is the former Chairman and Chief Executive of Republic Services.

US investor and NGO coalition Ceres is looking to hire a Manager, Corporate Accountability Program. The full-time Boston-based role includes managing relationships and projects involving the 70+ Ceres companies and 100 + coalition organizations, as well as some prospective Ceres companies.
