RI People & Appointments, Sept. 12: Viederman joins board of Responsible Endowments Coalition

RI’s weekly round up of appointments and departures.

Steve Viederman has been named to the board of the Responsible Endowments Coalition (REC), the lobby group for responsible and sustainable investment in higher education in the US. Viederman led the Jessie Smith Noyes Foundation’s efforts in mission-related and impact investing and shareowner activity in the early 1990s.

Frank Curtiss, Head of Corporate Governance at Railpen Investments, has been named UK Vice President and Treasurer of the Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators.

Claudia Kruse, Head of Corporate Governance at APG Asset Management, is among six new members of the Global Reporting Initiative’s Technical Advisory Committee. The other new members are: Alan Teixeira (IFRS Foundation); Judy Kuszewski (independent); Kathleen Shaver (Mattel); Stiaan Wandrag (Sasol); Robin Edme (independent). Link

Doug McTaggart, CEO of Queensland Investment Corp., is to retire as from June 2012. QIC, Australia’s fourth largest institutional asset manager with A$60bn (€45.5bn) in funds under management, is a signatory to the UN Principles for Responsible Investment. A search for his successor is underway, QIC said.

Ian Theodoreson, chief finance officer of the UK’s National Church Institutions of the Church of England, has been elected chair of the Charity Finance Directors’ Group, according to a report in Third Sector. He supervises finance at the Church Commissioners for England and the Church of England Pensions Board, it added.

Stanley Hartt, the Chairman of Macquarie Capital Markets Canada Ltd., has joined the board of Ontario-based low carbon energy firm OZZ Clean Energy. Prior to joining Macquarie, Hartt chaired Citigroup Global Markets Canada and is a former Canadian Deputy Minister of Finance.

Roger Ferguson, president and CEO of US retirement provider TIAACREF, has been named to the board of Washington-based personal health management platform Addax Health Solutions, according to a company filing.The UN-backed 
Principles for Responsible Investment (PRI) has appointed Surinder Hundal as Director, Communications at its London HQ. Hundal was a former Director, Policy & Communications/Executive Leadership Team at the International Business Leaders Forum.

Ebba Schmidt, Responsible Investment Manager at the UK Pension Protection Fund, has been appointed Chairman of the PRI Fixed Income work stream which held its inaugural meeting in June.

Nick Silver and Sean Kidney, both founder/directors of the Climate Bonds Initiative, have been appointed members of the UK Government’s Capital Markets Climate Initiative (CMCI), which aims to help unlock the private sector’s ability to help meet the $100bn of new green investment required annually by 2020 to tackle climate change in developing countries.

Erich Becker has been named as a Partner at London-based cleantech private equity firm Zouk Capital (formerly zouk ventures). Erich Becker, who joins from Macquarie Bank, will co-lead Zouk’s infrastructure team, which focuses on renewable energy and environmental sectors, with Colin Campbell.

Mission Markets, the impact and sustainability investment marketplace, has named Sam Salman as President and Chief Executive Officer. Salman is chairman and chief executive of New Reality Solutions, a sustainability-focused strategic advisory and merchant banking firm.

Cynthia Williams, Professor of Law at University of Illinois and a member of the Network for Sustainable Financial Markets, has joined the Environmental Financial Advisory Board of the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).
