Sophie Robinson-Tillett is taking over as Editor of Responsible Investor from Daniel Brooksbank.

Sophie, who joined RI in 2016 as Deputy Editor, was previously News Editor at Environmental Finance; before that she was a Freelance Journalist at The Guardian.

She has been instrumental in developing RI’s coverage of climate issues, in particular the EU Action Plan on Sustainable Finance.

Daniel, Editor since 2010, becomes Head of Strategic Content, with a brief to develop and broaden editorial coverage across different market sectors.

Sophie will be the third Editor of RI, following on from Daniel and his predecessor Hugh Wheelan.

Sophie will head a team of award-winning journalists including CFA Journalist of the Year Khalid Azizuddin, the CFA’s ESG Journalist of the Year Vibeka Mair and multiple State Street Institutional Press Award-winner Carlos Tornero. The team is rounded out by Paul Verney and Ella Milburn – with Paul Hodgson in the US – and there are plans for further editorial hires going forward.

The move comes amid massive growth in readership of the site over the past 10 years.

Daniel was on hand when RI launched as a subscription service in May 2011 and by the end of that year it had grown to 700+ subscribers.

At the time, the site traffic was thus: 62% Europe, 23% North America and 15% Rest of World.

Fast forward to the end of January 2020 and that figure has now grown to 6,500+ subscribers. Interestingly, the site traffic for 2019 breaks down as 45% Europe, 43% North America, 9% Rest of World.

And the top five countries by site traffic in 2019 were as follows: 39% US, 19% UK, 9% France, 4% Japan, 4% Netherlands.
