BNP Paribas AM RI Head leaves for Pictet as Swiss manager rejigs positions

Pictet’s Butz to focus 100% on Timber Fund management.

Eric Borremans, Head of CSR & SRI Development at Paris-based BNP Paribas Investment Partners is leaving the company to join Pictet Asset Management (PAM) in Geneva as part of a personnel move at the Swiss fund manager that will see Christoph Butz, currently Investment Manager and Pictet Asset Management (PAM) Sustainability Expert, work full time as co-manager of the $620m Pictet Timber fund. Borremans declined to comment, but RI understands that he will join the Swiss firm during July. The move is a return to Switzerland for Borremans, who last worked in the country as Head of Research Services for SAM in Zurich from 2000 to 2002. Borremans, a respected RI professional, has been with BNP Paribas since then in a number of senior sustainability roles. He is also Vice Chairman of the Institutional Investors Group on Climate Change (IIGCC). Butz, another well-known figure in RI, has been with PAM for over ten years and championed the launch of the timber strategy back in 2008.He has been an investment manager for the fund since its launch and co-manages it with Gabriel Micheli, but his time was previously split with an advisory role to the PAM quantitative SRI team as sustainability expert.
Pictet said the hire of Borremans as its new sustainability expert would enable Butz to focus 100% on the timber strategy. Borremans has over 20 years’ experience in sustainability issues; first, as an environmental consultant to both blue chip companies and public sector entities globally. He holds an MBA in Environmental Management from the Columbia Business School – New York and Ingénieur Commercial – Finance from Brussels University, Solvay Business School, Brussels. Borremans will work alongside the PAM Quantitative SRI team, headed by Laurent Nguyen.

BNP Paribas could not be reached for comment on Borremans’ departure.
