RI People & Appointments, April 18: New UN Green Climate Fund committee members named

The United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) has agreed the 40 members tasked with designing the new Green Climate Fund – the institution planned to help mobilize long-term finance for climate change projects in developing countries. The so-called Transitional Committee, which will have its first meeting in Mexico City on April 28-29, will prepare specifications for the fund for approval by the next UN Climate Conference in Durban. Oekom Research, the Munich-based ESG research firm has appointed Dr. Bernd Balkenhol, Caspar von Blomberg and Dr. Klaus Gabriel are to its Advisory Board. Balkenhol is director of the Social Finance Department at the International Labour Organization (ILO). Von Blomberg is Managing Director of the Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP) and is in charge of its activities in continental Europe. Gabriel is Head of the ethical investor community CRIC e.V. The three replace Dr. Jürgen Glaser, Prof. Dr. Martin Jänicke and Prof. Dr. Gerhard Scherhorn, who are stepping from the Oekom board down after several years in the positions.
Nic Marks, the founder of the New Economics Foundation’s Centre for Well-being, has joined the Sustainable Investment Committee of the Igloo Regeneration Fund. Igloo invests in sustainable urban regeneration in the UK and is run by Aviva Investors. Investors include the pension funds of the Environment Agency and the Derbyshire, Lincolnshire, South Yorkshire and West Midlands county councils. According to its website, Igloo is currently seeking £30m of new investment.
Bob Assenberg and Bernadette Blom have joined Dutch social investment company Goodwell Investments as partners. Assenberg was formerly a fund manager at Triodos Bank while Blom is the co-founder of financial advisory firm Corporate Connect. The appointments come as Goodwell, which has around $70m in committed capital, is expanding its investment and advisory activities.

AccountAbility, the organisation which promotes accountability and sustainable business, is seeking applications for an interim board for the AA1000 sustainability standards. The new group replaces the voluntary Standards Board which resigned amid controversy earlier this year. Roger Adams, Director, Special Assignments for the UK’s Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA), will chair the board nomination committee. The agency was set up in 2009 to promote the “widespread and increased adoption and sustainable use of all forms or renewable energy”. Link

Dexia Asset Management, the sustainable and responsible investment manager, has appointed two independent directors. They are consultant Daniel Gillet and Olivier Lefebvre (representing An Other Look to Efficiency Sprl). Gillet is a management consultant and Lefebvre, the former CEO of the Brussels Stock Exchange, is an independent director and adviser. Release

Peter Droege, Professor and Chair of Sustainable Spatial Development at the University of Liechtenstein, has been named president of Eurosolar, the European Association for Renewable Energy. He takes over from German MP Hermann Scheer who died last year. Announcement

Joseph Wittrock, currently head of research for Aviva Investors North America, has been named chief investment officer of sister firm Aviva USA. He will lead a new investment group responsible for around $50bn (€35bn) in assets. Announcement

Gerhard Roggemann is to retire from his role as a non-executive director at asset management firm F&C at its annual general meeting next month. Roggemann is Vice Chairman Europe of corporate finance firm Hawkpoint and Deputy Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Deutsche Börse AG. F&C’s annual report

Asset manager Henderson’s socially responsible investing (SRI) team is currently seeking to appoint an SRI Investment Analyst to work on its global Industries of the Future investment strategy. Responsibilities include input into stock selection as well as portfolio construction and management. The deadline for applications is May 6.

Sustainable investment firm Pax World Management has advertised a vacancy for a Sustainability Research Analyst. The responsibilities include researching the environmental, social and governance (ESG) performance of companies and securities, support senior staff and prepare research reports, articles, presentations and responses to shareholder enquiries.
