Ella Milburn

Ella covers a broad range of subjects including sustainable finance in Japan. She has previously been a freelance writer for The Independent, Vice, and Open Democracy on topics including climate protest groups, accessibility, and reproductive rights. Prior to joining RI, she studied an MA in journalism at Goldsmiths, University of London, where she wrote local news stories and created a magazine about disability, which was shortlisted for the BBC Worldwide Best New Brand at the Magazine Academy Awards 2018. Her undergraduate degree was in Spanish and Japanese (BA Hons) at the University of Manchester, which included a year conducting research at Ochanomizu Women’s University in Tokyo on a Nikkensei government scholarship.
